VE Holden Commodore
August 26th 2006 07:30
Reading the paper today I came across a comparison between a variety of station wagons. I was outright suprised to see that at the moment there is no word of when a VE Commodore wagon will be available as the VY wagon is still in production. Now I know of many organisations that use the Commodore wagon, it is esecially popular for sales reps and other positions where you need a vehicle that has ample storage. I just find it strange that they didn't develop a station wagon during this multi million dollar VE project.
I was luckily enough to see the VE Commodore from an early stage (even though it was heavily disguised) as one of my neighbours works for Holden. They were bringing a different model home every night from the office. My first impressions were that I liked it. Sleek styling and the interior looked very nice. To me, the car looks much larger than the VY and those flared guards could be a large problem. It will be interesting to see how many people get them scraped and dented when parking.
I haven't owned a Commodore since the VS, which was a nice car but one of my fondest memories was the clunky auto. I do not understand how Holden advertises the VE as 'all new' when infact on the base model V6, you still get the ancient 4 speed auto transmission that has been around for donkeys. Even though the software has been upgraded, I don't believe that it is all new. A shame really, as it would be nice to have the 5 speed auto on a base as standard, yet I guess that would put the price of the base model Omega up.
Fuel consumption will be interesting with this model, can't wait to hear what people start reporting on it in a few months. Check out the Holden website
