Wheel Fever - by Paladin

The New Toyota Camry

August 25th 2006 08:41
With all the heavy advertising of the new VE Commodore, I had forgot about one of the other new commers to the auto world in Australia. When driving to the city this afternoon, I passed a Toyota dealership and saw dozens of gleaming new Camrys in the yard. 60 seconds later I was opening the door of a hot black Sportivo. And my oh my, this is a stunning vehicle. Personally, I never thought too much of the camry as I had always seen them as the government fleet car. The new Camry in my opinion is a winner in styling, even the base model, Altise, looks very sporty.

The interior has also improved, with plastics fitting better and a nicer choice of colours. The Grande comes with a massive list of standard features, including sat nav, sunroof, leather and woodgrain. The choice of exterior colours is also great, Ink, Cyber Green and Ice Blue look awesome. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to take the Camry out on the road due to lack of time.

Most people, especially fans of large Aussie cars may think I'm a little crazy in liking the Camry, but if its handling and dynamics are on par or bettter than the previous model; this will be a great car. The Camry is only available in a 4-cylinder (The soon to be released Aurion is a V6). The engine produces 117kw and 218Nm of torque (max). Fuel economy is a claimed 9.9l per 100km combined. Pricing is very reasonable so don't be suprised if I trade in my Astra Sri for an Ink Black Sportivo!!!!!! Hopefully I will be able to test drive one soon. Check out the Toyota site for some pics.
