Speeding driver gets fine cancelled.
Speeding driver gets fine cancelled.
A driver from Port Talbot in South Wales has fort and won his case against the authorities after receiving a speeding ticket.
Normally getting a speeding ticket or fine drop through your letter box is a bad thing, but most people would just grin and bear it, pay the fine, get the points on your licence, and get on with your life.
But when the speeding fine landed on Gavin Mathews door mat, he was not about to give in that easily, he requested copies of the photographs from the speed camera, from which he was able to begin his own investigation.
Using the Distance/Time = Speed formula, he was able to work out the distance travelled and the time taken equalled the speed that he was actually doing was about 5 mph lower than the speed camera was set for, 50 mph! Also in the photographs there was bus overtaking him which clearly would have activated the speed camera.
After presenting his own evidence to the Police and the Safety Camera organisation responsible for placing the camera and following up with fines etc. They clearly had no choice other than cancelling the ticket and offering the driver an apology for what is most defiantly their fault. Makes you wonder how many other drivers have been fined wrongly.
