Wheel Fever - by Craig Hill

Lather, Rinse, Repeat.. Washing your Car right

May 10th 2006 09:36
So you’ve got your pride and joy, you drive it everywhere. You cruise the main streets, holla at your homies and wave at the chikitas. You take it to the track, strip it down to the bare essentials and thrash it to get the best time. It rains. You drive it through construction sites. It rains again. You notice your car get dirty. “Ahh I’ll wash it when I have time” you say to yourself. This viscious cycle continues for the next week..and the next…and then the month goes by.. 2.. and soon you are staring at an absolutely filthy wreck of a car.
Barely able to recognise your own car, you quickly become targets of the “WASH ME” written onto your windscreen.

Wash Me
WASH ME WASH ME!!!

There are a lot of misconceptions about washing the car; here I outline the correct procedure:
1. Rinse Car – a basic rinse to get everything all wet. Don’t forget to apply extra pressure on your wheels
2. Wash Wheels – the dirtiest part of the car. Remember to use different sponges to the body for this one
3. Rinse Wheels – get all the gunk off
4. Wash Car – start sudding up your car! For maximum enjoyment, make sure to be playing Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliot’s Carwash
5. Rinse Car – Get all the gunk off
6. Clay Car – A very useful tool! Using a clay bar gets rid of all the contaminants locked in by the paint. Make sure you know how to use it though as it can damage the car

7. Rinse Car – Final rinse down!
8. Chamois Dry Car – Get it all dry. Make sure you get in all the nook and crannies. Nothing worse than washing your car and having watermarks leftover.
9. Polish Car – Use a good polisher to bring your paint up to that showroom finish
10. Wax ON – Make like the Karate Kid and WAX ON!
11. Wax OFF – Wait a while then WAX OFF! Wax acts like a sunscreen for your car

Now, this is a fairly basic walkthrough, in fact, you cant get any more basic! Keep in mind that this whole procedure need not be done everytime you wash the car. A good rule of thumb is to do this whole process once every 2-3 months. Otherwise a Rinse, Wash and Chamois is fine.
