This is a question that often occurs when we see an unusual or old car number plate. There are many number plates out there, but many of the best and most valuable number plates are the very old ones, because when these number plates came into being there were not many vehicles on the road and therefore the letters and numbers were in small configurations, which is why we see some really old number plates with just one or two letters and numbers. These are the most sort after car registrations, and undoubtedly the most valuable.
Take the Northampton Borough Council's mayoral car, its a Jaguar as you would expect being that this car is used to take the Mayor to and from official functions, nothing spectacular about that, of course not, but what is spectacular is the Jaguars number plate, in relation to the Council, the car registration number is NH 1, quite short and to the point.
So why are we talking about the Mayor of Northampton Borough Council's car? Well the Council like many others around the country are strapped for cash, so much so that they are having to cut some public services which include a Leisure centre, it has been estimated that if the Leisure centre closed along with the towns sixteen public conveniences, this would save the council around £200,000, but the services would be lost forever and so on, until there is nothing left at all. Yet the number plate that sits on the front and back of the Mayors car is estimated to be worth around £250,000!
It just goes to show you how something as simple as a car number plate can prove to be a fantastic investment.
