Honda Love: Civic Type R Revamped

Now I can pinpoint the exact moment I truly appreciated Honda’s. I can also pinpoint the moment where I fell in love with Honda’s Type R’s.
The first was on a cruise up the Old Pacific Highway. A friend and I were on a.. “Spirited” drive. It was about 1am and the roads were clear, the air was crisp and the roads a smooth matt black. I fired up my friends EK4 Civic, a comforting drone filled the cockpit as I let the car idle. I squeezed the a-pedal and noticed the very quick engine response as it shot up to 6 grand on the tacho.
Now I always regarded Civic’s as a bit of a boy-ricer’s car, but tonight was going to change my perception. I drove up the familiar roads that was the old pacific highway, but feeling vastly different to my own car. It was lighter, zippier and handled like a go-kart! I initially experienced slight understeer – which was natural as I came from a RWD car, but wasn’t much of a problem as I adjusted for it pretty quickly. The more I gave it, the more it wanted. The 8k red line seemed to go forever and keeping it in the power band (VTEC YO!) was a breeze. The car responded nimbly to my steering decisions and zipped through the corners proving itself to me.
The second was a slightly different experience, I didn’t get to drive the Integra Type R (DC2R) but was happily riding shotgun with a friend. The road this time was Galston Gorge, what one would describe as the closest thing to Mt Akina in Sydney, hairpin after hairpin after hairpin. The Type R slammed into first gear and hooked around the bend, holding its racing line through the corner really showing all its potential. It reconfirmed my previous confirmation about the Honda All Motor race bred cars.
Now, the new Civic Type R has been announced. It’s a mean motherf-- of a car! With futuristic looks and aggressive styling, it really has boosted what was a previously bland line of Civic Type R’s. Its boasting a mean 147kw (at 7400rpm) and 196nm of torque (at 5900rpm). An amazing car! Whats bigger news is that Honda Australia is rallying hard to have it imported and sold in dealerships!
